About Allison

Hi, my name is Allison Withers. I am a fully qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I offer a warm and collaborative space where you can talk freely and feel truly heard. I understand that taking the first step toward therapy can feel daunting, but I want you to know that you do not have to face your challenges alone.

My approach is focused on helping you understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. By exploring these areas together, we can work towards gaining greater control over your wellbeing. While my practice is rooted in providing a person-centred and non-judgemental environment, I specialise in integrating evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to ensure our work is structured and effective.

CBT is particularly powerful for identifying how specific thought patterns influence your daily life. During our sessions, I will help you recognise unhelpful thinking habits and replace them with more balanced, compassionate ways of responding. Whether you are looking for short-term, solution-focused support or more in-depth exploration, I adapt my pace and methods to suit your specific goals and personal circumstances.

We develop effective, practical coping strategies and tools to confidently manage anxiety, stress, and low mood in your daily life.

I'll help you explore the connections between your past experiences and present behaviours, fostering self-awareness to build stronger self-esteem and future resilience.

We'll work together to recognise and gently disentangle negative relationship dynamics, helping you cultivate healthier connections built on mutual understanding and trust.

I'll provide a consistently calm, safe, and non-judgemental space where you can build the self-awareness and confidence essential for achieving lasting personal growth and change.

Background and experience

My professional journey began in corporate customer services, where I developed the foundational communication and listening skills that I bring to my clinical practice today. Driven by a deep interest in emotional wellbeing, I transitioned into the therapeutic field and have since gained extensive experience working with a variety of organisations, including Mind, Place2Be, and Citizens Advice.

I have also worked within a domestic abuse charity and an addiction rehabilitation centre, supporting individuals from a wide range of backgrounds through complex emotional challenges. These experiences have provided me with a robust understanding of trauma, anxiety, depression, and the diverse pressures of modern life. With a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a Level 5 Diploma in Couples and Relationship Therapy, I am well-equipped to support both individuals and couples in navigating their mental health and relationship concerns.
